Scottish software company Gael Ltd. has donated its Aviation Quality and Safety Management software Q-Pulse to the African Aviation Safety body, AviAssist Foundation, to support the initiation of data driven management on the continent. Martin Bowman, Sales and Marketing Director at Gael said, ‘Traditionally, the aviation industry has taken a reactive approach to managing safety, for example in occurrence reporting. As well as helping the industry to manage regulatory compliance, Q-Pulse has given airlines tools and techniques that have helped them to move from a reactive approach to take a more proactive stance. By becoming involved with AviAssist, we are taking a leaf out of our own book and proactively supporting safety standards across Africa – and we are delighted to be of assistance.’ AviAssist Director Tom Kok acknowledged the impact the donation will have on the region's safety record: ‘The first step to managing anything is to measure it. Safety management and data analysis are tools that can be highly efficient in predicting where action ought to be taken to prevent accidents and incidents. ‘However, data driven safety management has not yet influenced operations in Africa on a large scale,’ continues Tom. ‘The exposure to the technology from Gael will assist the Foundation in enabling African operators and governments to draw valuable lessons from normal operations and incidents. In these activities, the AviAssist Foundation aims to work complementary to IATA's activities on flight safety data management in our region.’ For further information please contact: |
